16-9 Win vs Lions (THANK YOU DEFENSE)
On a Windy night they decide to throw downfield way too often - esp trying to force the ball to AJ.
The Eagles getting stuffed on third-and-one on their third drive. Why not use the Tush Push alignment there?
The play call after the Cooper INT.
The Eagles getting six points after blowing field position at the Lions’ 11, 48 and 43 on three of their first six drives.
On third downs the offense went 4-for-15, i.e., only ~27% conversion rate.
Analysts described this as their worst offensive performance in two years by EPA (expected points added) per drive
“Terrible spacing & alignment in the first half” → Opening drives with favorable position but minimal gain; slips/mis-reads on 3rd and long.
“Poor scheme & blocking failures lead to horrible run game” → Holding penalty kills big gain; rush numbers modest; inability to consistently move the chains.
“The pass game suffered from egregiously bad spacing and unclear assignments – which is systemic.” → Deep pass negated by penalty; third-and-16 situation where QB scrambles for a short gain; the offense produced only one TD; mis-execution in key moments.
“Defenders could sit in short-to-intermediate zones without fear of being beat over the top” → With the offense only achieving 272 yards and a low third-down rate, the Lions could afford to defend moderately without worrying about being gashed deep; plus the Eagles had few effective big plays to force the defense back.
